Join our colleagues at the Yale Art Gallery’s Furniture Study Center for a talk and demonstration about lathe turning on March 22, 2024! Information and registration are here. I will also be taking four historical pocket watches from the Peabody Museum’s History of Science and Technology collection to the event.
The four watches are part of a larger collection of gorgeous historical timekeepers which were donated to us by Professor Emeritus Thomas Lentz, MD. They are: an English gold and enamel pocket watch engraved with “AMITIE” (friendship) and containing a lock of hair from about 1781; a French silver and enamel, hour and quarter hour repeater watch from about 1850; a ladies’ pocket watch in gold, enamel, and diamonds sold by Tiffany & Co. in 1886; and a gold-filled American railroad standard watch from 1915.
